THE LIGHTS OF HANUKKAH
By Shoshana Kurzweil
The lights of Hanukkah are burning and we rejoice within their glow,
remembering the ageless miracle within the Temple long ago.
A time of oppression and bondage had come,
and we were in fear and dismay,
Forbidden to worship the God that we served,
it was God that we choice to obey.
Come children, kindle the menorah,
and hear the stories of our past.
The wonder will not fade from memory,
but through eternity will last.
We'll tell of the candles with oil for one day,
and how they continued to burn,
How God delivered His people who prayed,
when to their God they returned.
Come hear the writings of our prophets,
foretelling the true Eternal Light.
A flame that never dies will kindle in your heart,
If you will believe in what they write.
They tell of Messiah the Light of the world
who came to deliver the earth.
And while we are kindling the Hanukkah lights,
we can remember His birth.
The Lights of Hanukkah are burning,
and we rejoice within that Light,
Remembering the ageless miracle,
that still is a miracle tonight.
