  GET WITH GOD    MESSAGES

BROKENNESS PART 1 (click for part 2)

Psalms 147:2-3 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.  He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

GOD HEALS THE BROKENHEARTED AND BINDS UP THEIR WOUNDS.

Sometimes are wounds aren't just physical---they're emotional and spiritual. Those are the hardest to heal.

Have people hurt you? Have you lost someone you love? Maybe you are walking around with a broken heart. God cares and He wants to heal your heart.

Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the suffering and afflicted. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted, to announce liberty to captives, and to open the eyes of the blind. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of God's favor to them has come, and the day of his wrath to their enemies.  To all who mourn in Israel he will give: beauty for ashes; joy instead of mourning; praise instead of heaviness. For God has planted them like strong and graceful oaks for his own glory.

This is not an empty promise or lofty words written long ago; this is the Living Word of God. The prophet Isaiah wrote it to Israel, and Jesus, the Son of God spoke it, not only to Israel, but to people of every nation, every background, every social standing---to people like you and me.

How do we avail ourselves of this promise? Just like we receive every single promise of God: we believe and receive. We don't have to work for it or be good enough. The only requirement for having your heart healed is for it to be hurting or broken; the only requirement for being 'bandaged' is being wounded; the only requirement for obtaining peace is to need it.

MAYBE YOU ARE WOUNDED AND BROKEN BECAUSE YOU HAD A DREAM AND A VISION AND EVERYTHING HAS GONE WRONG. You thought your dream was God’s dream and you were working to make it happen. It blew up in your face and, now, your dream is dead and even your hope is gone.

Dan B Alexender said: A leader’s dreams must die if a deep soul is to be born.  Idealism may get us into the fray, but it is the loss of all we cherish that begins to form in us a heart capable of leading others reluctantly and humbly. … If our dreams don’t die, then God-dreams won’t be birthed.”

GOD WANTS TO BRING FORTH THE DREAM HE PUT INSIDE YOU, BUT FIRST YOU HAVE TO PUT IT ON THE ALTAR.

If you are broken, believe it or not, that’s the best time for a miracle. When we come to the end of ourselves and there is no possibility for us to accomplish our vision on our own---or even to straighten out our own lives—when there’s no way for us or anyone else to “fix” things, then God can step in because we are no longer wrestling with him—trying to handle things on our own.

IF THAT IS YOU TODAY, THEN THIS IS THE TIME TO SURRENDER TO GOD. WE ALL FAIL SO THAT WE CAN ULTIMATELY SUCCEED—GOD’S WAY.

Psalm 51: 16-17 (AMP) 16For You delight not in sacrifice, or else would I give it; You find no pleasure in burnt offering.   17My sacrifice [the sacrifice acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart [broken down with sorrow for sin and humbly and thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise.

William MacDonald wrote the following:

God Values Broken Things

Usually when something is broken, its value declines or disappears altogether. Broken dishes, broken bottles, broken mirrors are generally scrapped. Even a crack in furniture or a tear in cloth greatly reduces its resale value.

But it isn’t that way in the spiritual realm. God puts a premium on broken things—especially on broken people. That is why we read such verses as:

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise (Psalm 51:17).

God knows how to resist the proud and haughty, but He cannot resist a person who is humble and contrite.

God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). There is something in our brokenness that appeals to His compassion and power.

GOD WILL PUT THE BROKEN PIECES—THE BROKEN HEART---THE BROKEN LIFE TOGETHER. SO, NO MATTER WHAT THE REASON FOR YOUR PAIN OR BROKENNESS—TURN IT OVER TO GOD. He will take your brokenness and make it beautiful. He will make you whole.

BROKEN THINGS by Shoshana Kurzweil

In this world, the broken things
are mostly thrown away like trash,
and crushed until they’re useless.

But. God takes note of broken things,
regards the shattered forms in pity,
and stretches forth His Arm to heal.

Carefully, He gathers pieces,
lays them down in private places,
touches them with tender love,

infusing them with power.

Underneath His watchful eye,

He sees the pieces move together,
mending,
blending,
merging,
changing...
into a whole and perfect image.

Strong, and now a thing of beauty,

suited for their purpose,
redeemed and fit, they stand,
leaning on the Master's Hand…
now hopeful and
Unbroken.

Psalm 34:17When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their distress and troubles. 18The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent.
