MAUREEN’S NUTRITION KORNER 4

 

I hope you are enjoying and putting into practice some of the suggestions I have made.  Also, that by changing your way of eating. you are feeling better.

 

I am going to make a list of some of the foods that are not of nutritional value.

 

Foods Not to eat

 

pies

cakes

cookies

candy

white flour, sugar

ALL artificial sweetners...A recent study showed "splenda"

to cause depression.

Canned soups, packaged fast foods ( MSG)

sweetened fruit juices or canned fruits in sugar

lard, most oils, margarine

trans fats so read labels

nitrates found in lunch meats or hot dogs

 

Foods to eat

 

ALL vegetables

ALL fruits

raw nuts without added oils/salt

brown rice

potatoes

whole grains ( watch wheat; it can cause arthritis to flare)

chicken ( no skin)

meat ocassionally ( no processed meats) use meat sparingly

fish ( not breaded)

couscous ( a good grain found in health store)

oatmeal and all 7 or 9 grain hot cereals

pure maple syrup

honey or agave nectar for sweetner.

spaghetti

A bowl of oatmeal in the morning topped with fresh fruit or raisins makes a nice breakfast.

 

A chicken breast ( no skin) a vegetable or salad and a potato makes a nice lunch...

 

I have a glass of fresh juice at night as I talked about last time. A big raw salad with olive oil, lemon or balsalmic vinegar at night. A protein if you'd like such as fish, beans or meat.

 

A snack of fresh fruit or peanut butter on an apple makes a nice snack.

 

Instead of so much bread put peanut butter on an apple, banana, crackers or a rice cake. I buy natural jelly with no added sugar. I do not use Skippy peanut butter as it has added fat and sugar.

 

Until next time DRINK water and remember if you are thirsty, that means you are already dehydrated. Keep yourself hydrated.
