MAUREEN'S NUTRITIONAL KORNER 2
Last time we discussed drinking
more water preferably distilled and purified. I use
both I buy distilled and use a purifier.
It is best to shop the outside
perimeter of the store. So a lot of fresh fruit and
vegetables. I like to buy in season. Right now
melons, cherries, watermelon are in abundance. I buy
the vine ripened tomatoes, avocado's, romaine
lettuce (head does not have all the nutrients as
green leaf/romaine).
If you are ill and cannot cook or
shop, just write a list for someone and include all
the fruits and vegetables. Try new ones too! All
you have to do is soak them in your sink with a
touch of Clorox to remove all sprays or buy a fruit
and vegetable cleaner to add to your water.
I make a vegetable salad each day
by adding romaine lettuce, a fresh tomato, avocado,
onion and whatever green or colored vegetable you
like. I use pure virgin olive oil along with either
fresh lemon or balsamic vinegar. I do not use
processed dressings. Remember, they have lots of
salt and MSG. You can check the health food section
and perhaps buy a dressing of your choice. I do
like some fine chopped garlic on salad too. Garlic
is nature's antibiotic and very healing to the body.
I also like raw nuts such as
almonds, filberts, pecans and
walnuts.
Next time I would like to discuss
a bit about juicing. It is very easy and you can
buy a Juiceman Jr. juicer at Walmart.
So increase water ( add a fresh
lemon) increase fruits/vegetables use pure virgin
olive oil and balsamic or rice vinegar.
Use nuts without salt for protein.
I advise no artificial sweeteners
but some honey, Agave nectar
or some fructose.
Remember, packaged foods contain
salt, MSG and many hidden preservatives. MSG causes
migraines and puffiness. So, always start from
scratch. Use no breaded prepared foods and try and
look through your health food section at grocery
store.
Read labels!
