MAUREEN'S NUTRITION KORNER 13 Depending upon where you live fall is a wonderful season to prepare winter squash. Some squashes are acorn, banana and spaghetti squash just to name a few. Spaghetti squash is very good with spaghetti sauce on it. Using spaghetti squash can take the place of spaghetti. I cut the squash in half and put it in a glass pan with water and a piece of tin foil for a covering. 350deg. oven and it is done when poked and soft. Scoop the squash out and top with either marinara or a meat sauce. So experiment with various winter squash and remember yams and sweet potato's. Many studies have been done with the "nightshade" family of foods. Nightshade vegetables seem to bother most arthritis patients. So here is a list of the nightshade vegetables. My husband and I have decided to eliminate these from our diet for awhile. 1. potato's 2. bellpeppers 3. eggplant 4. tomatoes For a fun study I suggest to go online and go to rawfoods.com . Eating more raw foods helps the system to cleanse, get more nourishment and you are eating live food. Try some different vegetables and fruits such as purple cabbage (for a salad) jicamia (tastes like an apple/potato) various sprouts, mango's and papaya. Papaya is excellent for digestion. I highly recommend juicing both fruits and vegetables. Add some ginger ( fresh) use sparingly along with carrots, apples, celery, cabbage, beets. Use beet sparingly as it detoxifies the body quickly. Drinking fresh juices along with plenty of water can ease discomfort of pain. The body is meant to heal itself otherwise doctor's could not do surgery. When they cut a patient open they know eventually that cut will heal. God designed us to eat properly so these many diseases would not come upon us. Its our choice God has created so many colorful and wonderful healthy foods for us to enjoy. NUTRITION KORNER:
